What is a saddle-stitched booklet?

Sheets of paper folded together and stapled along the spine. It's the go-to binding for brochures, catalogues, guides and other short publications.

How many pages can it have?

Accepted Answer

From 8 to 48 pages. The total must be a multiple of 4 (8, 12, 16 and so on), because each folded sheet makes 4 pages.

Question 3

Does the page count include the covers?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The cover counts as 4 pages: outside front, inside front, inside back and outside back. Every one of them can be printed on.

What sizes can I choose?

A6, DL, A5 and A4 (portrait or landscape for A5 and A4), plus 148mm and 210mm square.

Do I need a heavier cover?

Accepted Answer

It's optional. A self cover uses the same paper as the inside. A heavier cover makes the booklet feel more solid and last longer. Some cover and paper pairs aren't possible; if you pick one, we'll switch it and tell you why.

What are the premium cover stocks?

Accepted Answer

Tintoretto Gesso has a laid, fabric-like texture in a warm off-white. Woodstock Bettula has a soft, felt-like surface with visible fibre flecks. Twill has a fine woven texture. Pearl Icewhite has a subtle pearl shimmer over crisp white. These textured stocks are made to be left unlaminated.

Can I laminate the cover?

Yes, in matt, gloss or soft touch, on one or both sides, on our 200gsm and 250gsm gloss and silk covers and the 350gsm silk cover.

Do I need bleed and margins?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Add 3mm bleed on every edge, and keep important content at least 5mm (ideally 10mm) from the trimmed edge so nothing gets cut off.

Can I send my artwork as spreads?

Accepted Answer

No. Send single pages at the correct size, in running order from front cover to back cover, all in one PDF.

Question 10

What resolution and colours should I use?

Accepted Answer

A CMYK PDF with images at 300dpi or more, and all fonts embedded or outlined.

Can I do large print?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Just set your text as large as you like in your document. We can't print braille.

Question 12

Will you check my artwork?

Accepted Answer

Yes. File Check is free and selected by default: our prepress team check page count, page order, resolution, bleed and more, and contact you if anything needs fixing. If you'd rather we fixed the problems for you, choose File Assist. We'll resize, fix fonts and correct the layout for a flat fee. Nothing goes to print until the artwork is right.

Can I send my artwork later?

Yes. Tick the option to email your artwork in the Artwork step and send it over when it's ready. Production starts once we have it.
